Healthy Community, Healthy Citizens
PURPOSES • To position health as an accountability issue
within the governance structure of all community entities. • To
provide appropriate screenings to determine the prevalence and severity
of overweight and obesity our community with
priority on BMI assessments for our children. • To identify barriers
in our community which do not support healthy behaviors. Influence change.
• To provide appropriate intervention strategies to improve community
health status, influence health impacting policy, and
identify an effective community health promotion infrastructure.
OBJECTIVES
1. Utilize Health Care Providers, ETSU and Washington County Health Department
to collect and analyze appropriate data.
to identify the prevalence and severity of health issues in the community.
2. Reach target groups with health education & promotion programs: parents,
teens, children, minorities, seniors, others.
3. Increase citizen physical activity by creating events supporting an active
community. Increase physical education in the
schools.
4. Improve access to better nutrition: home, school, restaurants and other
public areas.
5. Increase access and participation in preventive screenings.
6. Increase the number of smoke free environments in public access areas.
