Who?
Tennessee Scholars are high school students who have completed
a specific curriculum that provides a high level of skills and readiness
for the labor market or higher education
What?
Appalachian Inter-Mountain Scholars is a regional program
sponsored by area business and industry.
When?
Tennessee Scholars are recognized annually during their high school years.
At an awards celebration in the spring of their senior year, Tennessee
Scholars receive special recognition.
Why?
Students choose to be Tennessee Scholars because they are assured this advanced
education will better prepare them for the workforce, enable them
to compete for a meaningful job and make them better prepared to
pursue advanced technical education or university study. Tennessee
Scholars are recognized by employers as having received a high quality
education
How?
You can become an Tennessee Scholar by choosing to complete the Tennessee Scholar
curriculum at your high school. Talk with your school counselor

What courses should I take?
To become a Tennessee Scholar, a student must complete a demanding high school
curriculum that emphasizes "on level" and above courses in mathematics,
science, social studies, language arts (English and foreign language),
and computer literacy. The program also stresses the importance
of attendance and dependability. Tennessee Scholars complete the
following course requirements:

English courses (Regular English and above) |
| 4 Credits |
Mathematics courses (Algebra I and higher) |
| 3 Credits |
History, Government, Geography or Economics |
| 3 Credits |
Science Courses (Three lab sciences such as Biology, Physics,
Chemistry, etc.) |
| 2 Credits |
Foreign Language (two credits of the same language) |
| AND/OR |
| 2 Credits |
Technical courses in the same track |
| 1 Credit |
Computer Related Course |
Tennessee Scholar Expectations
- Community Service
20 hours of community service
- Attendance
Must maintain at least 95 percent attendance over the four-year
period
- Discipline
Out-of-school suspension results in removal from program
recognition
- Grade Point Average
A "C" is the minimum acceptable grade in each required course
- Appeals can be made to the Assessment Committee
